A call center/equivalent function that specifically handles issues involving product and technical support.  Not simply a platform for supporting external customers, the help desk can also be an internal resource for assisting employees with IT matters.  Many vendors market help desk applications – effectively, ticketing systems – that organize and enhance the technical support process.
